Our acoustic doors and doorsets are designed to accommodate sound insulation requirements in a wide range of applications. Just as its name implies, an acoustic door controls the audio level of its chosen environment through the use of its core properties.
At E & S W Knowles we can manufacture doors offering an acoustic rating ranging from 30 dB – 45dB, available with a range of adaptable features including fire resistant properties.
Our Doorsets can be supplied with sound reduction up to 35 dB for standard construction or up to 45dB for high performance requirements.
Our Door performance is measured in accordance with BS EN ISO 10140 and rated according to BS EN ISO 717-1 as required by Building Regulations Approved Document E.
Where sound insulation is important, an acoustic engineer should be consulted. There are contributing factors that hold an impact on the overall performance of a construction. Factors include, the door size, gaps, control of sound transmission and correct installation all hold major impact on the acoustic performance the door can offer.
Our Acoustic doors are fire doors, as standard. Specially developed as a high-performance door’s using a specific core to suit both fire and sound specifications.
Within the industry, this specification of door core is commonly known as fire-sound.
Acoustic fire rated doors are an increasingly popular choice for specialist applications that require great privacy levels, for example in sectors such as Ministry of Defense, Health, Leisure, and Education.
Our acoustic doors are designed to be highly effective door core for fire performances up to FD60 (60 Minute Fire Resistance) or to provide for sound attenuating performances in a non-fire application.
Although we can offer doors with higher fire ratings up to FD120 (120 Minute Fire Resistance), the nature of these cores do not offer the best acoustic values.
Therefore, we would recommend FD60 (60 Minute Fire Resistance) Fire Doors to be used as the highest fire specification of an acoustic door, to find a balance between both fire and sound requirement.
